FAQ - Physician Education

Q. What are the key benefits?
  • Save Faculty time! Instead of every Medical institution recreating an educational resource, we can work together to have the highest quality shared resources available to all our learners
  • Give your Faculty and Residents an opportunity to publish on a national platform and showcase their talent
  • Collaborate with other departments such as Internal Medicine, Radiology, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Cardiology, Critical Care, AnaesAnesthesiatheia

Q. What is the difference between the Private and National Platform
The national platform is designed for collaboration and the rapid dissemination and verification of knowledge. It is a showcase of every programs talented staff and their publications. The national platform is free for all organizations and their members to join, view, and publish.

The private platform is designed for intra-organizational learning. Resources published to the private platform are only visible within your institution.

Q. How is Accuracy Verified?
Accuracy is verified by an institutional peer review process called certification. Each participating institution is allowed to certify publications.
Only institutions such as medical schools, residency programs and hospitals can certify resources.
Publications that are certified by three or more institutions are considered peer-reviewed publications.
Publications that are certified by seven or more institutions achieve international certification and are viewable in other countries.

Members can transparently see the number of certifications a publication has and which institutions have certified it. Members can also limit their search to publications certified by their institution. Institutions can also restrict their members to only view publications they have certified. The program director decides which members have the authority to certify resources on behalf of the program.

Q. What are the advantages of peer-to-peer learning?
Peer-to-peer learning allows your staff to be active participants in their training by allowing them to contribute to their educational environment. Members are encouraged to identify limitations in their learning environment and utilize their knowledge and skills to create educational resources to educate the rest of the institution.

Peer-to-peer learning results in more engaged staff and a more adaptive and comprehensive curriculum. It provides your members with an opportunity to showcase their skills and receive feedback from their peers.

Q. What options do we have when implementing the peer-to-peer model at our institution?
The platform is flexible; here are some ways you can choose to implement the platform:
  • Peer-to-peer learning - By permitting all staff to both view and contribute to the platform, you provide the most engaging and adaptive platform.
  • Traditional Learning Management System - The platform can be used as a traditional LMS, where only the administrator can upload videos, and all staff can view resources
  • Hybrid Model - Senior members are able to publish, while junior members can only view resources
  • Certification Model - With this option, you give a broader group of your members the ability to publish; however, publications can only be viewed by the most senior admin staff, who can certify the publications as accurate. Once the publication is certified, it is then visible to all other members at your program. This option provides you a balance of flexibility and control.

Q. Is this platform multidisciplinary?
Yes, each publication is saved under the author's department. You can choose which departments you wish to view articles from. For example, you can choose to view publications from Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Radiology.

Q. Is this platform multi-organizational?
Yes, Residencies, Fellowships, Medical Schools, Hospitals, and National Governmental Organizations can use the platform. Publications are categorized by the author's institution. You can choose which organizations you wish to view articles from. For example, you can choose to only view publications from Residencies, Fellowships, and Medical Schools.

Q. What are community groups, and how do they work?
Community Groups allow multiple institutions to share private resources by forming an interlinked private group. They are useful for Universities with many departments or institutions that have many separate locations.

Q. How is this designed to promote lifelong learning
Members have a single account from medical school until retirement, allowing them to develop a portfolio that stays with them through their careers and can be used for residency and fellowship applications. They will always be able to access the national platform but can only publish when permitted by a participating institution.

Members can transition their primary group from Medical School to Residency, Fellowship, and Hospitals as they advance in their careers. They can also be part of multiple organizations, for example, a Fellowship Program, Hospital, and an Alumnus of a former Residency Program, giving them access to private content of all the organizations they are a part of.

Q. What is the cost?
The national platform is free for all institutions. The private platform is free except for storing private videos/podcasts. For institutions who wish to store videos/podcasts in the private platform, it costs $1000 per institution per year, per 100 hours of multimedia uploads, and this subsidizes the national platform. Academic institutions from developing countries can upload up to 100 hours of video/podcast for free in their private platform. To ensure the platform is free from bias, we do not allow any advertising or sponsorship. There is no fee per member, and you are welcome to add former residents as alumni and just matched medical students to your organization.

FAQ - Patient Education

Q. What is the motivation for creating the Patient Education Platform
Limited health literacy is a hidden epidemic. Patients with poor health literacy are worse at managing their health, have lower medication compliance, and are less likely to take preventative measures. Studies have shown that patients only remember about half the information their doctors give them.

Q. When using email/ text message to prescribe, is my number shared?
No. The patient receives a message from our institutional number with a link to the resources.

Q. How is accuracy verified for the patient platform
Patients are only given access to videos your institution has certified.
